A UK EuroMillions player has won a staggering £177 million jackpot—but confusion reigned after the wrong winning numbers were first published online.
The mix-up caused some players to wrongly assume they had lost, before the correct numbers were confirmed hours later. The mistake came after a media release issued just after midnight mistakenly included an extra number, suggesting no one had won the prize.
The Press Association later issued a correction, and the National Lottery urged all players to check their tickets again. The official winning numbers for Tuesday night’s draw were 07, 11, 25, 31, and 40, with Lucky Stars 09 and 12.
The jackpot is the third largest ever won in the UK and puts the winner ahead of celebrities like Harry Styles and Anthony Joshua, both estimated to be worth £175 million.
Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at Allwyn—the National Lottery operator—celebrated the result. “Wow, it has been a truly incredible night for a single UK ticket holder who has scooped tonight’s jaw-dropping £177m EuroMillions jackpot,” he said. “What a wonderful win right before Christmas.”
The prize places the lucky ticket-holder behind only two others on the National Lottery’s all-time rich list. In May 2022, Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester won over £184 million. The current record remains a £195 million EuroMillions jackpot won by an anonymous UK player in July 2022.
As of now, the £177 million prize remains unclaimed, and officials are urging all players to double-check their numbers. The winner’s identity has not yet been revealed.
