Powerball Player Wins $50,000 After Narrowly Missing $127M Jackpot

by Nancy

A Powerball player in North Carolina missed the $127 million jackpot by just one number but still won a prize of $50,000. The ticket was bought at Antioch Food Market in Morganton, about 75 miles northwest of Charlotte.

The player matched four of the five white balls but missed the red Powerball. Their numbers were 12, 13, 34, 44, and 67 for the white balls, with an 8 for the red ball.

Because the player missed the Powerball, they did not win the jackpot, which has now grown to an estimated $184 million as of Monday. The jackpot has gone six months without a winner.

To win the jackpot, players must match all five white balls plus the red Powerball. Drawings are held three times a week—on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays—at 10:59 p.m. EST and can be watched online.

Meanwhile, another ticket bought at Weis Markets in Montgomery Borough, near Philadelphia, won $150,000 in the December 11 drawing. That player matched four numbers and the Powerball and paid an extra dollar for the Power Play option, which tripled the prize from $50,000 to $150,000.

Officials have reminded winners to claim their prizes before the deadline and to sign the back of their tickets to protect their claim. The deadline for the Montgomery Borough ticket is December 11, 2024.
