Two Georgia lottery players are running out of time to claim their $403,000 Fantasy 5 jackpots, won earlier this year.
Both players matched all five winning numbers — 9, 10, 12, 27, and 28 — in the January 20 draw. One of the tickets was bought online using the Georgia Lottery app. The other was purchased at the Citgo Quik Mart in Alpharetta, about 30 miles north of Atlanta, according to the Miami Herald.
Each winner defied odds of 1 in 850,668 to hit the top prize. But as of now, neither player has come forward to collect their winnings.
Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their prize, according to the Georgia Lottery’s official rules. That gives these two players until mid-July to schedule an appointment and collect their money at a Georgia Lottery Corporation office.
Lottery officials are urging players to check their tickets carefully, especially those who play regularly through the app or at local retailers.
Unclaimed jackpots are not unusual. In Oregon, a $328 million Powerball prize from January 18 also remains untouched. That winning ticket was purchased in Beaverton, near Portland.
The mystery Oregon winner will eventually need to decide between taking the full amount through annuity payments over 30 years or opting for a lump sum. The cash value of the $328 million prize is $146.4 million before taxes.
Meanwhile, in Iowa, another Powerball winner is days away from losing a $50,000 prize if they don’t come forward soon.
As deadlines approach, lottery officials nationwide are reminding players to double-check old tickets, especially from major draws earlier this year.
