AUSTIN, Texas — A Mega Millions ticket worth $5 million was sold in North Texas, but the winner who claimed the prize is not from Texas.
The winning ticket was purchased at a RaceTrac gas station on Camp Bowie Blvd. in Fort Worth for the March 28 drawing. According to the Texas Lottery, the prize was claimed by a resident of Henderson, Nevada, who chose to remain anonymous. The winning numbers for that drawing were 2-9-31-60-63, with a Mega Ball of 23.
The ticket holder paid an extra $1 for the “Megaplier” feature, which multiplied the prize by 5, making the total win $5 million. This prize was awarded under the old Mega Millions rules, which were in effect through April 4. Under those rules, non-jackpot prizes could be multiplied by up to five times, allowing the Nevada winner to claim the $5 million.
New Mega Millions rules took effect beginning with the April 8 drawing.
Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT. The current jackpot is $80 million.
