A store clerk’s suggestion helped Amanda Hughes of Gwinn win $500,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s 50X Wild Time instant game.
“I don’t usually play scratch-offs often, but I buy one sometimes,” Hughes said. “When I asked for the $20 Wild Time game at the store, they were sold out. The clerk recommended 50X Wild Time instead.”
After scratching her ticket, Hughes wasn’t sure she had really won. “I thought I must have read the rules wrong. I reread the instructions and then went back to the store to scan the ticket with the clerk. It felt surreal when I realized I had really won $500,000!”
Hughes, 42, bought her winning ticket at Kwik Trip on M-553 in Marquette. She recently claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters. She plans to buy a house and save the rest for her children.
“This money will be life changing for my family. I still can’t believe it’s real,” she said.
Since its launch in February 2024, players have won over $67 million on 50X Wild Time. Tickets cost $10 each and offer prizes from $10 to $500,000. More than $24 million in prizes remain, including 52 prizes of $10,000 and 96 prizes of $1,000.
In 2024, Michigan Lottery players have won nearly $1.8 billion on instant games. Tickets are available at retailers statewide.
