An Oceana County woman turned a $100 online lottery win into a $1 million prize by playing the Michigan Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle.
The 63-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased her winning raffle ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.
“I won $100 playing an online game, so I used some of it to buy Powerball and Mega Millions tickets,” she said. “While I was at it, I saw the Millionaire Raffle and thought, ‘Why not?’ and bought a ticket.”
She forgot about the raffle ticket until she received an email from the Lottery with instructions on how to claim a prize.
“When I logged into my account and saw the $1 million pending, I didn’t believe it,” she said. “I logged out and back in a few times, and the prize was still there. I’m still trying to process it!”
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli called the win a perfect example of how a spontaneous purchase can lead to life-changing results.
The winner recently claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters and plans to save the money.
The Millionaire Raffle is an auto-renewing raffle game launched on December 10. Only 100,000 tickets are sold per drawing. Each drawing awards one $1 million top prize and 100 prizes of $1,000. Once all tickets are sold, the drawing is held and sales begin for the next round.
The Michigan Lottery’s online platform offers over 200 games, including instant games, draw games, and raffles, with ticket prices ranging from 5 cents to $50.
