A lucky Kentucky Powerball player who purchased a ticket at a gas station in Hopkinsville is being urged to claim their $150,000 prize before it expires.
The winner matched four numbers and the Powerball, a combination typically worth $50,000. However, they selected the Power Play option, which tripled the prize to $150,000, according to NBC affiliate WNKY-TV.
Kentucky lottery officials are reminding players that they have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their winnings. To ensure their claim, officials advise signing the back of the ticket and storing it in a secure location. Winners must also schedule an appointment at the Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville to redeem their prize.
The prize remains unclaimed as the next Powerball drawing is scheduled for February 26. The jackpot, which rolled over after Monday night’s drawing, is now estimated at $233 million, with a cash value of $106.6 million.
During the latest drawing, seven players matched four numbers and the Powerball. Only two of them had selected the Power Play, increasing their prize to $150,000. The remaining five winners received $50,000 each.
Power Play is a feature that multiplies non-jackpot prizes. In the same drawing, one player in Florida matched five numbers, and more than 180,000 players matched the Powerball to win $4 each. Another 354 players matched four numbers, taking home $100.
So far in 2025, there has been one Powerball jackpot winner. Abbas Shafii, a 79-year-old from Oregon, won $328.5 million after matching all the numbers in the January 17 drawing. He claimed the prize a month later.
Shafii chose the lump-sum cash option, receiving $146.4 million before taxes. Powerball winners of prizes over $5,000 are subject to a 24% federal tax. Depending on the state where the ticket is purchased, additional state taxes may also apply.
