Two Maryland residents have each won $50,000 in the lottery—one through a streak of April luck, and the other by discovering an old forgotten scratch-off ticket.
In Baltimore County, a woman purchased a Money Bags scratch-off ticket from Howard’s Pub & Deli and was stunned to find she had won the game’s $50,000 top prize. Speaking to the Maryland Lottery, she said she frequently plays scratch-offs and usually wins modest amounts. But this time was different.
“I was thinking about my two biggest wins as we drove here today and realized that both of them were in April. Now a third—it’s crazy,” she said.
Her previous wins include a $10,000 prize five years ago and a $20,000 prize two years ago. This third win, the largest yet, left her speechless.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I just stared at it. I couldn’t wait to get home to tell the family,” she said. “Every morning since then, I wake up thinking it was a dream. Then I smile, knowing it’s real.”
Meanwhile, in Nottingham, another Maryland resident stumbled upon a $50,000 win while helping his mother clean her home. While moving furniture, he found five unused holiday-themed scratch-off tickets she had bought as stocking stuffers but never handed out.
He asked if he could scratch them and offered to split any winnings with his mom. At home, he and his wife scratched the tickets. Four were minor winners or duds, but the final one—a $5 Holiday Luck Doubler—revealed a $50,000 prize.
Both winners were shocked by their unexpected fortune. While $50,000 is not the largest lottery prize ever won in Maryland, for these lucky players, the windfalls were life-changing moments of joy.
