A Limerick man’s quick stop for snacks turned into a life-changing moment after he won €255,000 in the EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle.
The lucky ticket was bought on May 9 at Moloney’s Daybreak in Carrigkerry, Athea. The winner said he nearly missed the chance to enter.
“I was just picking up a few things for the family when I asked the shop assistant if I was too late for a EuroMillions ticket,” he said. “She told me I just made it in time—and that ticket ended up being the big one!”
The man and his partner recalled laughing about the possibility of winning all weekend. “He kept joking and asking if I thought he might have the winning ticket. We heard the prize was won in Limerick, but he kept putting off checking it,” said his partner.
Now €255,000 richer, the couple say they can finally begin building their dream home. “It’s been a long journey, but this win means we can finally move things along. We’re over the moon—it still doesn’t feel real,” they said.
The win is part of a special EuroMillions Ireland Only Raffle promotion, which runs throughout May. Every Tuesday and Friday draw includes one guaranteed €250,000 prize, in addition to the usual €5,000 raffle reward.
So far, top prize winners have come from Dublin, Meath, Wicklow, and now Limerick. With more draws to come and the EuroMillions jackpot estimated to hit €200 million in Tuesday’s draw, excitement continues to build across Ireland.
