A Powerball player in Arizona is sitting on a winning ticket now worth $150,000—but has yet to come forward and claim the prize.
The winning ticket was purchased on May 14 in Littlefield, a small town near the borders of Nevada and Utah. The ticket initially won $50,000, but the player chose the Power Play option, which tripled the prize to $150,000 for just an extra $1.
Despite the life-changing sum, lottery officials say the winner remains anonymous and has not claimed their prize. The Arizona Lottery is urging the player to step forward before the deadline passes, or the money will go unclaimed.
Winners typically have 90 days to a year to claim their prize, and the deadline is usually printed on the back of the ticket. Prizes can be claimed by returning to the place of purchase or by contacting a lottery office directly.
This year has been significant for the Arizona Lottery. In January, one player won a $112 million Mega Millions jackpot. Others have claimed major wins, including $2.9 million from The Pick, $1.6 million from Triple Twist, $2 million from Powerball, and multiple $1 million prizes.
Meanwhile, a similar situation is unfolding in West Virginia, where a $1 million Powerball ticket remains unclaimed. The winning slip was bought on May 10 at Mardi Gras Casino in Cross Lanes, Charleston. The ticket matched all five numbers except the Powerball. The winning numbers were 20, 28, 39, 42, and the Powerball was 13.
Officials in both states are reminding players to check their tickets carefully. Every year, millions of dollars in lottery prizes go unclaimed simply because winners don’t realize they’ve won.
