CESSNOCK, NSW — A man from Cessnock is celebrating a life-changing windfall after winning the entire $30 million jackpot in Thursday night’s Powerball draw.
The lucky winner held the only division one ticket in Powerball draw 1512, drawn on May 8. He purchased the winning ticket from Shell Aberdare Newsagency on Aberdare Road.
A representative from The Lott called the man shortly after the draw to deliver the news. His shocked reaction was immediate.
“Holy sh..t!” he exclaimed. “Bless you, man! Bless you!”
The man revealed he had pinned the ticket to his fridge, right next to a stack of unpaid bills. “I was looking at it this afternoon and thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be lovely to win?’ There will be no more worrying about bills now. I don’t care if I get a bill!”
Still shaking from the shock, he admitted he would struggle to sleep. “I used to wonder what I’d do if I got a winning call, but now all I can do is shake! I better take a breath or two.”
The man said he and his family had been through tough times recently, and the win marks a major turning point. His first priority is to buy a new house and take care of his loved ones.
“I’m going to ring my kids right now and tell them the news,” he said.
The winning numbers were 33, 32, 35, 14, 15, 7, and 34. The Powerball number was 12.
