Hunter Valley Man Wins $30M Powerball After Tough Times

by Nancy

A man from Cessnock in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, has won the entire $30 million Powerball jackpot from Thursday night’s draw, bringing relief after what he described as a “rough trot.”

The man burst into laughter and exclaimed “holy s***” when he received the call confirming his life-changing win.

“I just had this ticket on the fridge,” he said. “I was looking at it this afternoon and thought, ‘wouldn’t it be lovely to win.’ The ticket was there with all the bills. There’ll be no more worrying about bills now.”

He said his first priority would be taking care of loved ones.

“For a start, I’ll look at buying a new house and looking after the family. Then I’ll take it from there,” he said. “I used to wonder what I’d do if I got a winning phone call, but now all I can do is shake.”

The winning numbers for the draw were 3, 7, 14, 15, 32, 34, and 35. The Powerball number was 12. He was the sole division one winner, claiming the full jackpot.

So far in the 2025 financial year, 395 Australians have won a division one Powerball prize, with 120 of those winners from New South Wales.

In 2024, The Lott recorded 422 division one winners. Among them were 19 Powerball entries who shared over $758 million in prize money. That year also saw Powerball offer a record $200 million jackpot. An Adelaide man won $150 million, making him Australia’s biggest-ever individual lottery winner.

The next Powerball draw, scheduled for May 15, has a jackpot of $10 million.
