An Oakland County woman celebrated her wedding anniversary with an unforgettable surprise—winning $2 million on the Michigan Lottery’s Diamonds & Gold instant game.
The 44-year-old winner, who chose to remain anonymous, said she and her husband scratched the ticket together on their anniversary. It was her husband who first noticed the $2 million prize.
“He thought something wasn’t right, so we went to the store to scan it,” she said. “The machine told us to file a claim at the Lottery office. We asked a friend to scan it on her Lottery app, and when $2 million popped up, I started shaking. It was shocking and exciting—the best surprise!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Opdyke Featherstone Mobil, located at 810 North Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills.
The player visited Lottery headquarters to claim the prize and chose to take a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $1.3 million, rather than annual installments. She plans to use the money to buy a house, invest, and save for her children’s college education.
“Congratulations to the lucky player and her husband who had a day they will never forget,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “It’s heartwarming to know the prize will also support their children’s future.”
The Diamonds & Gold game launched in March 2024 and has already awarded more than $54 million in prizes. Each $20 ticket offers a chance to win prizes ranging from $20 up to $2 million. Over $49 million in prizes remain, including one $2 million top prize, 21 prizes of $5,000, and 113 prizes of $2,000.
