A lucky Kentucky lottery player is being urged to come forward and claim their prize of $25,000 a year for life. The winner narrowly missed out on the top prize of $1,000 a day for life in Tuesday’s draw.
The winning ticket was sold at Cut Rate Liquors, located at 185 Delaina Drive in Mt. Washington. Players who bought tickets from this liquor store should check their numbers. The winning combination was 2, 11, 25, 30, and 31, though the player missed the lucky ball number, 7.
Although they missed the grand prize, the winner is still set to receive annual payments of $25,000 for at least 20 years. However, they will have to make a key decision: whether to claim the prize as annual payments or opt for a lump sum payout of $390,000. The lump sum represents 15 years’ worth of annual payments, but the winner would lose out on future payments by choosing this option.
The winner must claim their prize within 180 days from the draw date, meaning the deadline is August 31. Officials recommend that the winner sign the back of the ticket and store it safely until they can make an appointment with lottery headquarters in Louisville.
This win marks the third time in five months that a Kentucky player has claimed the second-tier prize. In January, a man from Danville won the same amount after purchasing a $10 ticket, and Billy Glenn from Lexington also won the $25,000-a-year prize in November 2024.
The Danville winner, who chose to remain anonymous, shared his disbelief upon seeing his win: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw $500,000 on the screen. I was shocked! I felt truly lucky for life.” He opted for the cash payout of $390,000, which was reduced to $280,000 after taxes.
Lottery officials are continuing to encourage all winners to check their tickets and act quickly before time runs out.
