CHICAGO — Illinois Lottery officials are urging the winner of a $1.1 million jackpot to come forward before the prize expires in just three months.
The winning ticket was purchased at a liquor store in Chicago for the Lucky Day Lotto drawing on September 8, 2024. Players have one year from the draw date to claim their prize. If the ticket holder does not come forward by this September 8, the money will be forfeited.
This jackpot is one of several currently unclaimed in Illinois. Four other Lucky Day Lotto prizes also remain outstanding — two worth $550,000, one worth $300,000, and another for $250,000.
Unclaimed lottery prizes are a common issue in the U.S., often due to lost tickets or winners being unaware they’ve won. If left unclaimed, the prize money is typically returned to the lottery or used to support public programs.
The Lucky Day Lotto gives players the chance to choose five numbers between 1 and 45, with each ticket costing $1. Prizes vary, with some draws offering smaller jackpots — like the current $100,000 prize — and others reaching into the millions.
Illinois Lottery officials continue to maintain a list of unclaimed prizes on their website and are encouraging all players to double-check their tickets.
