Two players in Georgia hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot in the same drawing earlier this month, winning a combined total of $806,000, according to the Georgia Lottery website.
Both tickets matched all five winning numbers: 09, 10, 12, 27, and 28. One ticket was bought in person at a Citgo Quik Market in Alpharetta, about 30 miles north of Atlanta. The other was purchased online via the Georgia Lottery mobile app.
The odds of a single player winning the Fantasy 5 jackpot are 1 in 850,668, making two winners on the same night a rare event.
Each winner is set to receive $403,000, but they must claim their prize before the 180-day deadline on July 18, 2025. Georgia requires winners to claim prizes above $601 either by mail with a signed ticket and claim form or in person at a Georgia Lottery District Office by appointment.
If neither winner claims the prize in time, the $806,000 will be redirected to Georgia’s education fund for HOPE and Pre-K programs.
Winners can choose to receive the money as a lump sum or as annuity payments over several years. Most opt for the lump sum despite its higher tax impact.
Federal taxes take 24% of lottery winnings over $5,000, and Georgia adds a 5.75% state tax. After taxes, each winner will take home about $283,000, totaling roughly $566,000 combined.
A lottery expert recently told The U.S. Sun that some winners delay claiming prizes for various reasons. A similar $1 million unclaimed prize is still waiting for a winner in Texas.
