Mega Millions Player Wins $1 Million After Missing $627M Jackpot

by Nancy

A Mega Millions player from Florida won $1 million after narrowly missing the $627 million jackpot on Friday. The winning $2 Quick Pick ticket was bought at a Publix in Plantation, Florida. The player matched all five numbers but missed the Mega Ball, which was number 8. The drawn numbers were 10, 17, 20, 24, 54, and Mega Ball 8.

The winner has 180 days from the draw date to claim the prize or 60 days if they choose the single-payment cash option.

Florida was not the only state with a $1 million winner last week. In Wisconsin, another player took home $4 million by using the Megaplier option, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to five times for an extra $1 when buying tickets.

The odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 24, while the chance of winning the second-tier $1 million prize is about 1 in 12.6 million. The jackpot odds are roughly 1 in 302.5 million.

The Mega Millions jackpot has now rolled over to $681 million, following the last jackpot win of $552 million in Illinois on June 4 — the ninth-largest prize in the game’s history. The next winner will enter the record books.

Meanwhile, Powerball players have been urged to check their tickets as three prizes worth $50,000 remain unclaimed in the same state. One winner has just 48 hours left to claim their prize before it expires and returns to the lottery fund.

The Mega Millions drawing for this week’s jackpot will take place Tuesday night at 11 p.m. ET, with hopes high for a new winner.
