Lottery officials are urging players to search pockets, drawers, and glove boxes for a missing Powerball ticket worth $50,000, which remains unclaimed nearly six months after the draw.
The winning ticket was sold in Louisiana and matched four white balls (09, 30, 33, 57, 61) and the red Powerball (17) during a mid-December 2024 drawing. The ticket also included a Power Play multiplier of 2x. As of May 17, 2025, no one has come forward to claim the prize.
Time is running out. The winner has until June 14, 2025, to present the original ticket at a Louisiana Lottery regional office or at the Baton Rouge headquarters. If the prize is not claimed by then, it will be forfeited.
According to the Louisiana Lottery, unclaimed prizes are transferred to the state’s unclaimed prize fund. This fund supports future games and promotions, helping to increase winnings and entertainment value for other players.
Powerball is played in 45 states, plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is managed by the Multi-State Lottery Association. Players must select five numbers from a set of 69 white balls and one Powerball from a set of 26. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
The $50,000 ticket isn’t the only unclaimed prize. A Mega Millions ticket worth $40,000, also sold in Louisiana in December, expires on June 15. Other outstanding prizes include:
- A $10,000 ticket from Arizona, expiring June 15
- A $10,000 ticket from Colorado, expiring June 22
- A $30,000 ticket from Colorado, expiring June 25
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290.4 million. Lottery officials are encouraging players to check their old tickets before these prizes disappear forever.
