Lottery players still have a chance to win a growing Mega Millions jackpot, now worth over $489 million. While no one has claimed the top prize yet, several players have already won smaller but significant amounts.
According to the Mega Millions website, three players matched five white ball numbers to win $1 million each. Another player won $3 million by adding the “Megaplier” to their ticket, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings for an extra fee.
The Mega Millions jackpot increases every time no one matches all six numbers in the twice-weekly drawings. Even without the jackpot, players can win money by matching fewer numbers.
Matching four white balls and the gold Mega Ball wins $10,000. Four white balls alone pay $500, while three white balls and the Mega Ball earn $200. Three white balls alone pay $10, one white ball with the Mega Ball pays $4, and the Mega Ball by itself is worth $2.
Some large prizes remain unclaimed. In Connecticut, a $3 million winning ticket was sold at a convenience store. In Virginia, a $1 million Powerball prize has yet to be claimed from a ticket bought at a grocery store. Another unclaimed winning ticket was sold in Missouri.Players are encouraged to check their tickets carefully and claim any prizes before deadlines pass.
