A lucky South African has won the PowerBall Plus jackpot of R28,558,423.50 after purchasing a ticket through a banking app, lottery operator ITHUBA announced.
The winning ticket was part of Draw 1612, held on Tuesday, May 6. The player used a manual number selection and spent R67.50 to secure the multimillion-rand prize.
ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza said the win shows exactly why PowerBall Plus was created—to give players a second chance to win big.
“It’s truly fulfilling to witness PowerBall Plus doing exactly what it was designed to do,” Mabuza said. “This win highlights the convenience and security of playing the National Lottery through banking apps. We are thrilled for the winner and remain committed to delivering a world-class lottery experience through continuous innovation and accessibility.”
In the same draw, another player matched five numbers in Division 2 and won more than R180,000. Eighteen others matched four numbers plus the PowerBall in Division 3, each earning over R6,000.
