Oakland County Man Wins $429K Lottery on April Fools’ Day

by Nancy

A 63-year-old man from Oakland County won a $429,249 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery—on April Fools’ Day.

The player, who chose to stay anonymous, matched all five winning numbers in the April 1 drawing: 09-14-21-35-36. He purchased the lucky ticket online through MichiganLottery.com.

“I’ve played the Lottery for years, both in stores and online,” he said. “When I checked the numbers the next day and saw I’d won, I thought it was a prank. It was a great surprise to find out it was real.”

The man recently claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters. He said he plans to use the money to pay bills and buy a new car for his wife.

Fantasy 5 tickets cost $1 per play. Players can add EZmatch or Double Play for an extra $1 each. EZmatch offers a chance to win up to $500 instantly, while Double Play gives players a second shot at a prize of up to $110,000 in a nightly drawing.

Fantasy 5 drawings take place daily at 7:29 p.m., with ticket sales closing at 7:08 p.m. Tickets are available at retailers and online.
