A Genesee County Lottery club returned from a trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as millionaires after winning $2 million on a Michigan Lottery 100X instant ticket.
The club’s representative said they often visit a friend’s cabin in the U.P. and always buy lottery tickets on the way there and back. On their way home, they stopped at Trout Lake Speedy Mart to get drinks and picked up a few tickets.
“I was driving, so another club member scratched the tickets once we got back on the road,” the representative said. “When I saw the $2 million prize, my heart started pounding. I felt like I was having a heart attack. I told my friend we won, and handed him the ticket. It was unbelievable. You never think it will be you.”
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the club, saying, “Winning $2 million is incredible, and sharing it with your best friend makes it even better. Congratulations to the club on their huge win and becoming debt free.”
The winning ticket was bought at Trout Lake Speedy Mart, about 30 miles northwest of Saint Ignace. The club recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. They chose a lump sum payment of about $1.3 million instead of annuity payments.
With their winnings, they plan to take a trip to Florida, pay bills, and live debt free.
Since its launch in January, the 100X game has paid out over $37 million in prizes. Tickets cost $20 and offer prizes from $20 to $2 million. More than $65 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 17 prizes of $10,000, and 154 prizes of $2,000.
