A Powerball player has won $1 million after matching five of the six winning numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing—but narrowly missed the $93 million jackpot by failing to match the red Powerball.
The winning numbers were 7, 10, 21, 33, 59, with the Powerball number 20. Had the player matched all six numbers, they would have taken home the full $93 million jackpot, or a lump sum of $45.9 million.
The $1 million winner has not yet been identified. In the same drawing, five other players each won $50,000.
With no one claiming the top prize, the jackpot has now grown to an estimated $112 million. The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday evening, with a cash option of $55.3 million.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place three times a week—on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Tickets cost $2, and players must choose five numbers between 1 and 69, plus one Powerball number between 1 and 26.
To win the jackpot, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. Winners can choose to receive their prize as a lump sum or through an annuity paid out in 30 installments over 29 years. The lump sum is subject to federal taxes, which significantly reduces the total amount received.
Players can also add the Power Play option for $1, which can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5, or even 10 times, depending on the drawing.
Recent Powerball winners include a California player who won $2.4 million after buying a ticket at a 7-Eleven. That winner has yet to come forward and must claim their prize before it expires later this month.
Meanwhile, a player in Ohio won $139 million in July but has also not claimed their winnings. That player has until December 30 to step forward.
Lottery officials continue to urge players to check their tickets, especially as several major prizes remain unclaimed.
