$80K Powerball Prize Unclaimed as Jackpot Grows to $189 Million

by Nancy

Powerball officials are urging players to double-check their tickets, as an $80,000 prize from a recent drawing has yet to be claimed.

The winning ticket was sold at a Circle K store in Chino Hills, California, about 35 miles east of Los Angeles. The lucky player matched four white balls and the red Powerball — just one number short of winning the $177 million jackpot.

Normally, this match would earn a $50,000 prize. However, this particular player is set to take home nearly $80,000. Prize amounts can vary depending on the number of winners and tickets sold in each state.

The odds of matching four numbers and the Powerball are 1 in 913,000.

Because no player matched all six numbers in Monday night’s drawing, the jackpot has now climbed to an estimated $189 million. The current cash value stands at about $83.1 million.

Meanwhile, one player in Oregon matched five numbers and used the Power Play option, boosting their prize to $2 million.

More than 290,000 players across the U.S. won prizes on Monday night ranging from $4 to $100,000.

This year, three players have already claimed major Powerball jackpots:

  • Linda Grizzle and her son won $167.3 million in Kentucky just before Mother’s Day.
  • A California player took home $526.5 million in March.
  • Abbas Shafii of Oregon won $328.5 million, choosing the lump sum option and receiving $146.4 million.

Powerball winners can choose between a lump sum payout or annual payments over 30 years. The largest Powerball win in history remains Edwin Castro’s $2.04 billion jackpot from November 2022.
