Maryland Groundskeeper Wins $500K on Lottery Ticket During Lunch

by Nancy

A Maryland groundskeeper hit the jackpot when he won $500,000 on a lottery scratch-off ticket he purchased during his lunch break, officials reported.

The lucky winner, who plays the lottery once a week, bought the ticket in March at the Long Branch Beer & Wine store on University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.

The groundskeeper recalled his decision to buy the ticket, saying, “I paid for my food and soda and saw that I had $20 left in my wallet. So, I decided to splurge on a $20 ticket, and Bonus Bingo was the first one I saw.”

He scratched off the ticket later that evening and discovered his $500,000 win.

The Montgomery County lawncare specialist, who wishes to keep some details of his life private, said he plans to use his newfound wealth to help his family. He intends to purchase a new home for his mother and assist other family members with various needs. Additionally, he is considering starting his own groundskeeping business.

The win marks a life-changing moment for the man, who never expected to strike it rich while simply treating himself to a lottery ticket.
